The Medieval Collection

A collection of painted furniture pieces, wooden boxes and panels originated as submissions to a series of exhibitions entitled “Historic Designs on Furniture” at the Museum Shoppe in Victoria British Columbia. It is dedicated to the memory of Andrea Nelles, owner and art patron, in gratitude for her boundless enthusiasm and support for local art.

These pieces are inspired by medieval illustration and woodcuts from books, calendars and illuminated manuscripts. I have applied designs and compositions to tables, boxes and panels bringing these illustrations renewed life and presence through a different medium. I have used the medieval colour palette combined with the brilliance of stained glass and the richness of tapestry.
