Mills of Canada
Over a period of three years, I researched and photographed surviving pioneer mills and mill sites in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes to illustrate their importance in the development of Canadian communities and commerce. This book documents the history, technology and architectural styles of gristmills, sawmills, and windmills from the early 1700's to 1900. When it was published, it was in the vanguard of "art" publications on Canadian history and architecture. It was received as a valuable contribution to increasing public awarenes of community heritage.
